June 2014 Ex-circus worker guilty of sex crimes A former circus worker who was convicted of a series of sex offences has been remanded in custody. Simon John Whittaker from Denbigh denied 13 offences against two victims but was convicted of 10 charges of indecent assault, indecency with a child, and sexual assault. Mold Crown Court heard how one woman had been sexually assaulted by him when she was a child many years ago. She only came forward and made a formal complaint after a young girl complained that he had done the same thing to her recently. Following the jury’s verdicts it emerged that he had relevant previous convictions. Prosecuting barrister Simon Rogers said that the defendant had been convicted in 1996 of having sexual intercourse with an underage girl, and in 1998 had been convicted of indecently assaulting a woman in her 20s. Whittaker, of Maes Sadwrn, Henllan, was remanded in custody pending sentence.
