SIMON STEWART DICK FROM DUNFERMLINE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OUTSIDE HIGH STREET PUB
A man from Dunfermline has been formally sentenced after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a public area of the town. The incident took place during daylight hours on Dunfermline High Street, a busy thoroughfare known for its vibrant social scene and numerous pubs.
The victim, who was out enjoying an evening with friends, was outside Wetherspoon’s bar, having a cigarette when the assault occurred.
Simon Stewart Dick, a 44-year-old resident of Robert Adam Drive in Kirkcaldy, was identified as the perpetrator.
He had previously been involved in unwanted attention towards the woman inside the pub, which led to concerns about his behavior.
Following this, he followed her outside onto the street, where the assault took place.
According to court records, Dick chased the woman along the High Street before physically grabbing her inappropriately, touching her crotch and vagina over her clothing.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Dick appeared for sentencing after admitting to the charges.
The incident was dated July 31st, and he pleaded guilty to the sexual assault, which involved pursuing the woman and touching her in a sexual manner without her consent.
The depute fiscal, Jill Currie, explained that the victim had already felt uneasy about Dick’s conduct earlier that evening inside the pub.
She recounted that around 7:30 pm, the woman and her friend left the pub to have a cigarette outside, aware that Dick was following them.
According to the prosecution, Dick made some unclear remarks before running towards the woman in the High Street.
She attempted to escape and told him to leave her alone, but he continued to chase her.
The assault culminated in him grabbing her and touching her over her clothes in a sexual manner.
The court heard that the victim was distressed by the incident and felt unsafe.
Defense solicitor Alexander Flett stated that Dick was genuinely remorseful for his actions.
He explained that his client had consumed excessive alcohol that evening and that the incident was out of character for him.
Flett emphasized that Dick has since stopped drinking and expressed regret for the harm caused.
However, Sheriff Alastair Brown condemned Dick’s behavior, describing his conduct as “deplorable.” The sheriff emphasized that Dick’s intoxication did not excuse his actions and that personal responsibility was paramount.
As part of the sentence, Sheriff Brown imposed a community payback order requiring Dick to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, Dick was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct in the community.
