In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Castle Gresley and the wider South Derbyshire area, Simon Seymour has been sentenced to serve over a decade behind bars for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against multiple children.

The conviction was handed down at Derby Crown Court after a lengthy trial during which Seymour’s guilt was firmly established by both a judge and a jury.

The court heard harrowing details of the abuse, which spanned several years and involved different young victims, some of whom are now teenagers or adults.

According to court proceedings, Seymour, aged 32 and residing on Castle Road in Castle Gresley, engaged in a pattern of depraved behavior that included groping, molestation, and other forms of sexual assault.

The victims were subjected to acts of touching and forced sexual contact, with at least one being coerced into touching him sexually.

Additionally, Seymour was found to have exposed himself to more than one of the children, further compounding the severity of his crimes.

Throughout the trial, Seymour maintained his innocence, denying all charges.

His refusal to admit guilt meant that the young victims, some of whom had to relive their traumatic experiences during the court proceedings, were compelled to testify against him.

The jury ultimately found Seymour guilty of two counts of sexual assault involving a boy and eleven counts of sexual assault on girls.

However, he was acquitted of charges related to the rape of a child.

The judge sentenced Seymour to a total of 11 years in prison, reflecting the gravity of his offenses and the impact on the victims.

The case has highlighted the ongoing issues of child abuse within the community and the importance of justice for those affected.
