SIMON MARSHALL FROM YORK SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS AFTER RAPE INCIDENT DURING SHORT-TERM RELEASE
In October 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving Simon Marshall, a known sex offender from York, who committed a heinous crime while on a temporary release from prison.Marshall, who was nearing the end of a five-year sentence for wounding with intent, was granted short periods of freedom by prison authorities, as explained by prosecutor Andrew Horton.
These brief releases were intended to allow him some degree of liberty before his eventual release, but during one of these intervals, Marshall took a sinister turn.
During his time outside the confines of prison, Marshall visited a woman’s residence.
Without her consent, he forcibly dragged her into her bedroom and proceeded to commit a sexual assault.
The victim recounted her ordeal to police, stating, “I never wanted sex with him.
I used to say no but he wasn’t bothered.
He got what he wanted.” Her emotional testimony was delivered at York Crown Court, where she described the aftermath of the attack as a period of profound suffering, including feelings of depression and a loss of self-worth.
She broke down as she detailed the “hell” she endured following the assault.
It was revealed during the court proceedings that Marshall had a history of sexual offenses, including multiple instances of sexual activity with different women.
His criminal record is extensive, notably including a six-and-a-half-year sentence handed down in 2006 for attempting to rape and indecently assaulting a teenage girl.
Despite his past, Marshall continued to offend, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behavior.
Earlier this year, a jury found Marshall guilty of three charges of raping the woman during his brief release.
Although he denied the charges, the evidence presented was compelling enough to secure a conviction.
Marshall, aged 49 and formerly residing in York, is currently serving a nine-year sentence for an unrelated offense of aggravated burglary.
He now faces a significant prison term following his latest conviction.
During the sentencing at York Crown Court, Recorder Patrick Palmer addressed Marshall directly, stating, “Throughout, you have expressed no remorse, not only for these offences, but for any of your past offences, and have always sought to justify your offending.” The judge sentenced him to 16 years in prison, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the lack of remorse shown.
Marshall’s criminal history and the brutal nature of his latest offense underscore the ongoing threat he poses to the community.
