SIMON MACE AND SHOCKING SEXUAL PREDATION IN SUNDERLAND

A man from Sunderland who engaged in disturbing online conversations with minors has been sentenced to prison for his actions.

Simon Mace, a 37-year-old resident of Sefton Square, Springwell, was found guilty of attempting to initiate sexual communication with children and possessing indecent images of minors.

His case has drawn significant attention due to the serious nature of his offenses and the high risk he poses to young people.

The criminal activities of Simon Mace came to light after authorities received a report from the National Crime Agency.

The report indicated that Mace had been actively communicating with users on Twitter, now known as X, who claimed to be under the age of 18.

These online interactions involved explicit and sexual content, with Mace believing he was engaging with underage girls.

It is important to note that the identities of these users were never confirmed, and prosecutors could not verify whether they were real children or adults pretending to be minors.

The police investigation revealed a series of alarming exchanges.

In one instance, after being told that the user was 13 years old, Mace responded inappropriately, stating that she was the "perfect age to be abused" and asking if she wanted to see his penis.

In another case, when told the user was 12, he expressed a sexual desire towards her and asked to see pictures of her.

The pattern continued with other users, with Mace making sexual comments, sending explicit images, and requesting further inappropriate photographs.

For example, with a third user who claimed to be 14, Mace made vulgar remarks, sent an image of his genitals, and asked her to remove her underwear, which he also commented on in a lewd manner.

When told that another user was 14, he immediately turned the conversation sexual, repeatedly asking for pictures and expressing a desire to see everything.

He also sent a picture of his genitals and received a photo of a female wearing underwear, which he demanded she remove.

Further disturbing was an interaction with a girl claiming to be 15, where Mace stated, "I like young s****." In another instance, when told the user was 13, he asked for explicit images and received a photo of female genitals along with a sexual video.

The court also heard that police recovered a conversation in which Mace discussed a girl he claimed to have a seven-year-old daughter, sending sexual messages about her.

However, he was not charged in connection with this particular conversation.

In addition to these online exchanges, authorities found 107 indecent images classified as Category C, depicting children aged between six and 13, on Mace’s iPad.

The images included explicit content involving minors.

Police also discovered that Mace had sent messages in a WhatsApp group asking if there were "any teen lovers," further illustrating his predatory behavior.

Mace, who has no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to seven counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor and one count of possessing indecent images.

His sentencing resulted in a 13-month prison term.

Additionally, he will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.

During the court proceedings, Robin Patton, defending Mace, described him as socially isolated, noting that both of his parents had passed away.

He argued that Mace would be vulnerable to exploitation and bullying if detained and suggested that he might form friendships with others convicted of similar offenses.

Patton also expressed concern that the prison environment would hinder Mace’s chances of receiving appropriate help, and highlighted the potential consequences of incarceration, including losing his job and accommodation.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat online child exploitation and protect vulnerable minors from predatory individuals like Simon Mace in Sunderland.
