SIMON JENKINS AND RECENT SHOCKING OFFENSES IN SOMERSET

A sex offender with a troubling criminal history has once again found himself at the center of serious allegations within the Somerset region.

Simon Jenkins, aged 62, who had previously been convicted of possessing child sex abuse images, was involved in further disturbing activities that have raised significant concerns about his compliance with court orders and his ongoing behavior.

In September 2021, Jenkins appeared before Isleworth Crown Court, where he received an 18-month jail sentence, which was suspended for two years, after being convicted of distributing indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography.

Despite the court’s decision and prior restrictions, Jenkins's actions subsequent to this sentencing suggest a troubling pattern.

Within a mere few weeks, he was found searching online for 'bestiality images,' which indicates a disturbing interest that persists beyond legal consequences and intervention.

The evidence presented in court revealed that Jenkins had accessed websites containing extreme pornography involving animals, specifically dogs.

Prosecutor Steven Molloy outlined these facts to a judge in Oxford on Thursday, April 13, emphasizing that Jenkins’s online activity included viewing material associated with bestiality.

This discovery underscores a pattern of behavior that continues to violate both moral standards and legal restrictions.

Further issues arose when police located Jenkins last summer at a new address, following investigations into his activities.

It was noted that Jenkins was residing at an address different from the one registered with authorities, a breach of the terms stipulated due to his status as a registered sex offender.

Although the probation service was aware of his current residence, Jenkins failed to notify the police of his new address, thus violating the conditions of his notification obligations.

Jenkins appeared before a magistrates’ court last month, where he pleaded guilty to possession of extreme pornography and breaching his sex offender notification requirements.

His defense, led by lawyer Kellie Enever, requested the judge to follow the recommendations set forth in a pre-sentence probation report.

Enever emphasized that her client, who had been heavily drinking at the time of his earlier arrest and had not yet begun working with probation, had since become sober and was earning a modest income by working in exchange for accommodation at a caravan park.

Enever also stated that Jenkins had no clear memory of the specific material police found on his phone related to bestiality, though he accepted having viewed such content.

During the hearing, Recorder John Ryder KC joked about the nature of his knowledge, saying, “Speaking for myself, I’d have thought they were somewhat memorable.” The judge decided against immediate imprisonment but issued a clear warning regarding Jenkins’s responsibilities.

He conveyed that Jenkins must fully adhere to the court’s terms and commitments, stressing that ignorance of legal obligations is unacceptable.

Jenkins was sentenced to a three-year community order for the possession of bestiality material, accompanied by a fine of £50 for breaching the earlier suspended sentence order.

In his sentencing remarks, Recorder Ryder acknowledged that the breaches occurred early during Jenkins’s period of supervision, implying that the therapeutic measures had not yet had enough time to take effect.

He emphasized the importance of engagement with the imposed community order to facilitate rehabilitation and prevent future offending.

As part of the community order, Jenkins is required to complete up to 60 sessions of rehabilitation activities supervised by the probation service and to pay additional costs totaling £85.

The judge concluded the hearing by urging Jenkins to actively participate in his rehabilitation efforts and to overcome his troubling inclinations, underscoring the seriousness of his offenses and the importance of compliance with the court’s directives.
