SIMON GLERUM FROM BRAINTREE ESCAPES JAIL AFTER IMPORTING CHILD-LIKE SEX DOLL IN ESSEX
In a case that has shocked the local community, Simon Glerum, a 33-year-old resident of Braintree, Essex, was involved in a disturbing incident involving the importation of a highly inappropriate and illegal child-like sex doll. The incident came to light in October 2017 when authorities intercepted the package at Stansted Airport, revealing a troubling connection to Glerum's address in Great Bardfield.Border Force officers, acting on suspicion, seized a 3ft 3in mannequin that was en route from Hong Kong to Glerum’s home. The discovery prompted a thorough investigation, which uncovered further disturbing evidence. Police seized a laptop from Glerum’s residence, revealing a collection of indecent images of children, including some of the most severe and illegal types. These images included movies and photographs categorized at the highest level of severity, known as Category A, along with other images classified as B and C.
Additionally, authorities found a fictional story depicting the sexual abuse of a child, further illustrating the disturbing nature of Glerum’s online activities. Items linked to the doll, such as a body stocking, were also confiscated during the search. The investigation revealed that Glerum had purchased the doll online, and he admitted to the court that he was responsible for the purchase.
Glerum’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings took place at Chelmsford Crown Court. On Friday, September 29, he was handed a 12-month suspended sentence, meaning he would not serve time in prison unless he committed another offence within the suspension period. The court also imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order, requiring Glerum to adhere to strict restrictions aimed at preventing future offenses. Furthermore, he was ordered to complete a comprehensive sex offender treatment program and spend 20 days in rehabilitation.
In a related case from August 2017, another individual was similarly spared jail after being caught with a child-like sex doll designed to resemble a young girl under the age of seven. That individual received a two-year suspended sentence after authorities intercepted the doll at Stansted Airport.
As part of the legal process, the confiscated doll was forfeited and is set to be destroyed. Glerum’s actions have raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of children, prompting authorities to take stringent measures to monitor and prevent such offenses in the future. The case remains a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities involving child exploitation and the importance of vigilance at points of entry like Stansted Airport.
