SIMON FERRIS FROM WEEDON JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AT PRINETHORPE COLLEGE NEAR RUGBY
In a case that has shocked the local community, Simon Ferris, a 41-year-old former physical education teacher from Weedon, Northamptonshire, has been sentenced to a total of 18 months in prison for historic sexual offences committed against two students.The offences, which date back to the early 2000s, were brought to light during a court hearing at Birmingham Crown Court.
Ferris, who resided on Fusilier Way in Weedon, pleaded guilty to three counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and one count of inciting or causing sexual activity with a girl.
His admission of guilt came as part of a plea deal that acknowledged his involvement in these serious crimes.
The court heard that the offences occurred between 2004 and 2006, a period during which Ferris was employed as a PE teacher at Princethorpe College, a well-known institution located near Rugby in Warwickshire.
Following his conviction, Ferris was sentenced to serve 14 months for the offences against one girl, and an additional four months for offences against the second girl.
These sentences are to be served consecutively, meaning Ferris will spend a total of 18 months behind bars.
The court also imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which restricts Ferris’s activities and contact with minors, and he will be registered as a sex offender for the next decade.
Warwickshire Police confirmed that the offences took place during Ferris’s tenure at Princethorpe College, highlighting the serious breach of trust involved in these crimes.
The police and court proceedings serve as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable students and the ongoing efforts to bring offenders to justice, regardless of how much time has passed since the offences occurred.
