STAFFORDSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR WIFE’S MURDER
Simon Downer, aged 32, from Wilnecote in Staffordshire, was convicted of murdering his wife Tracey last June.
He was found guilty after his eight-year-old stepdaughter testified against him, disarming him during a violent argument before he grabbed a larger knife and fatally stabbed her.
The girl relayed that Downer told her mother: "That's what you get if you push it with me," and contacted emergency services after witnessing her mother injured.
Downer had previously served a six-year sentence for wounding his ex-partner and was on licence from an open prison when he committed the murder.
The judge at Birmingham Crown Court sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum of 20 years before parole eligibility.
