SIMON COUCH FROM ST AUSTELL SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON YOUNG GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the community of St Austell, Simon Couch, a 48-year-old man residing on Dobell Road, was sentenced to a total of ten years in prison for a series of serious sexual offenses committed against two young girls. The crimes, which spanned over a period of two years, involved grooming and repeated molestation of one of the victims, who was between nine and 11 years old at the time.
According to court proceedings, Couch used manipulative tactics such as offering sweets and providing alcohol to the young girls in order to gain their trust and facilitate his abusive behavior.
The court heard that these offenses took place in the late 1990s, a period during which both victims suffered significant psychological trauma as a result of Couch’s actions.
Last year, a jury found Couch guilty of five counts of indecent assault, confirming the severity of his misconduct.
The court was informed that the abuse inflicted upon the victims had long-lasting effects, with one of the girls developing issues related to alcohol and drug use during her teenage years, highlighting the profound impact of Couch’s crimes.
In sentencing, the judge, Recorder Mr.
Jonathan Barnes, imposed a sentence of seven years for three counts of indecent assault, to run concurrently with a three-year term for gross indecent assault.
Additionally, Couch received a three-year sentence for another count of indecent assault, with an extended license period of one year, ensuring ongoing supervision after his release.
Furthermore, Couch was subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his activities and contact to prevent further offenses.
He will also be registered on the Sex Offenders Register for life, a measure designed to monitor and manage his potential risk to the community.
During the sentencing, Mr.
Barnes expressed his disapproval of Couch’s attitude, stating, “You are still in denial as to what you did to these two young girls and are still making unpleasant allegations of dishonesty against one.
It is perfectly clear you have no remorse for what you did.” The case underscores the importance of justice for victims of sexual abuse and the ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable individuals from predatory behavior.
