Kings Lynn Child Sexual Abuser
In August 2013, a man from King's Lynn, Simon Chubb, was sentenced to a two-year prison term after being found guilty of multiple charges related to the creation, possession, and distribution of indecent images of children. The sentencing took place at Norwich Crown Court, where Chubb, aged 39 and residing in Fairstead, pleaded guilty to a total of 13 charges during an earlier hearing.

As part of his punishment, Chubb was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely. Additionally, he was subjected to an indefinite sexual offences prevention order, which explicitly barred him from having unsupervised contact with individuals under the age of 18. The order also imposed restrictions on his use of computers and internet access, aiming to prevent further offenses.

The investigation that uncovered Chubb’s activities was initiated by Durham police, who uncovered disturbing evidence of his involvement in the distribution of illicit material. Court proceedings revealed that Chubb had established a folder on an online distribution network, which contained images of children under the age of eight. Prosecutor Christopher Youell stated that Chubb’s password to this folder was shared with a total of 218 individuals, although it remains unknown how many of these people actually accessed the content.

Further details disclosed that the images had been sourced from various locations around the world, and the victims depicted in the photographs and videos have not been identified or traced. At the time of his arrest, authorities found that Chubb possessed approximately 950 indecent images and videos stored on his laptop computer, highlighting the extent of his involvement in this criminal activity.

During police interviews conducted on August 28 of the previous year, Chubb admitted to the authorities in a full and frank manner. He revealed that he had used a Facebook profile to interact with teenage girls, pretending to be much younger himself. Despite these admissions, Chubb denied ever making direct contact with any children and claimed that he did not see himself as a danger to others.

Legal representatives for Chubb, including Isobel Acherson, acknowledged that their client recognized he had a problem and expressed his willingness to address it. However, the judge, Nicholas Coleman, emphasized the seriousness of the case during sentencing, stating, “This investigation arose out of a search and seizure of computer material found in your possession. You were involved in an act of distribution and making available the information you had gained.”

Following the sentencing, Norfolk Police’s Detective Constable Mark Stratford issued a statement underscoring the importance of the case. He said, “We hope this case sends out a strong message to those possessing such images that the Constabulary is committed to bringing such offenders to justice. We should remember that behind every image there is a victim of abuse, and this sentence reflects the seriousness of this crime.”

Earlier in April 2013, Chubb had already been warned about the potential for a prison sentence when he admitted to making, possessing, and distributing indecent images of children. During a hearing at Norwich Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to nine charges related to these offenses. He also admitted to possessing indecent photographs and videos, although he was cleared of a separate charge involving inciting a 15-year-old into pornography.

Chubb was remanded on bail pending the preparation of a pre-sentence report, with a sentencing date expected before the end of June. Judge Nicholas Coleman cautioned him that a custodial sentence was likely, describing the case as “deeply disturbing” and emphasizing the gravity of the crimes committed.
