Clacton Sexual Abuser
In May 2021, a Clacton-based sex offender, Simon Chilton, was sentenced to prison following his conviction for multiple sexual offences. Chilton, aged 36 and formerly residing on Glover Close in Clacton, was convicted last week of abusing two children between 2013 and 2018. His arrest came in November 2018 after the offences were reported.
Specialist detectives from Essex Police’s child abuse investigation team conducted an extensive inquiry and provided support to the victims. The investigation employed new measures that allowed the victims not to have to testify during the trial.
Chilton was tried at Chelmsford Crown Court, where he was found guilty of seven counts of rape, six counts of sexual assault, four counts of sexual assault by penetration, and one count of assault by beating. On 14 May, the court sentenced him to 21 years in prison, with an additional year on licence.
