Sunbury-on-Thames Child Sexual Abuser
In a significant development in the fight against child exploitation, Simon Chan, a 27-year-old resident of Sunbury-on-Thames, was recently sentenced to five and a half years in prison at Guildford Crown Court for his role in a paedophile ring. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing extent of his involvement, which included conspiracy to distribute indecent images and the possession of a substantial collection of illicit material.

Chan pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including conspiracy to distribute indecent images and the making of 20 indecent images. An examination of his computer revealed that it contained over 100 gigabytes of illegal content, a volume that equates to approximately 28,000 images and 3,000 videos. This discovery underscored the severity of his actions and the disturbing nature of the material he possessed.

Following his sentencing, Simon Chan was not only sentenced to imprisonment but also faced strict restrictions. He was permanently banned from working with children and was ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and preventing any future contact with minors.

Detective Superintendent Mick Deats expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We are delighted with the sentence handed out. This was a lengthy and complicated operation, which drew on all the specialist skills of our officers. Most importantly, a child who was identified as a result of this operation is no longer at risk.”

Sandie Hebblethwaite, the chief Crown Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in Surrey, described the images found on Chan’s devices as “truly abhorrent,” emphasizing the grave nature of the crimes committed and the importance of the legal action taken to address them.
