NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE OFFICER BANNED FOR FILMING SEX ACT IN UNIFORM
A police officer who recorded a solo sex act while in uniform has been permanently banned from policing.PC Simon Barker, who was stationed in the Selby area of North Yorkshire, was discovered to have filmed himself performing the act in a police station room and later sent the video, in which he was clearly identifiable, via WhatsApp to a woman in February 2022.
Despite not attending a misconduct hearing at North Yorkshire Police's headquarters, Chief Constable Tim Forber determined Barker's actions constituted gross misconduct and placed him on the police barred list.
The force emphasized that Barker's behavior breached standards of professional conduct, specifically discreditable conduct, authority, respect, and courtesy, and highlighted the risk of wider distribution undermining public confidence.
Barker’s Police Federation representative expressed apologies for his actions and pride in serving the force.
Barker resigned on 9 December, prior to disciplinary action.
The incident has been widely condemned, and Barker faces a lifetime ban from the police service.
