WALLSEND PENSIONER SIDNEY HULME CAUGHT EXPOSED IN SHOCKING INCIDENT
In June 2022, a disturbing incident unfolded in Wallsend, North Tyneside, involving Sidney Hulme, a 78-year-old pensioner with a troubling criminal history.Hulme, who was married and had previously been convicted of similar offenses, was out alone for the first time since the Covid-19 lockdowns, having previously shielded with his wife.
During this outing, he committed an act that has now led to legal repercussions.
The incident occurred as Hulme was walking along Chicken Road in Wallsend on May 14 of the previous year.
According to court reports, a woman walking nearby noticed Hulme approaching her.
She observed that he had his penis exposed, hanging over the top of his trousers, which was clearly visible as he moved towards her.
The court heard that Hulme was not merely exposing himself but was also allegedly engaged in a sexual act at the same time, a claim the defendant denies.
The woman, horrified by what she saw, quickly reacted by rushing into a nearby florist shop to seek safety and promptly contacted the police.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they approached Hulme and conducted an investigation.
The victim’s account was corroborated by the officers, who confirmed that Hulme was indeed the individual involved.
The court proceedings revealed that Hulme has a history of similar offenses, with seven previous convictions.
Notably, in 2016, he was convicted of exposure and received a nine-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 12 months.
Hulme appeared before Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to one count of exposure.
As a result, he was sentenced to a 12-month community order, a decision that reflects both his past criminal record and the nature of the offense.
Gurjot Kaur, the prosecutor, detailed the incident, emphasizing the victim’s shock and the seriousness of the act.
She stated, “The woman was walking down Chicken Road when she saw the defendant approaching her.
She noticed that he had his penis exposed and hanging over his trousers, which was in a soft state.
As they drew closer, she observed the defendant engaging in a sexual act.
She then sought refuge in a nearby florist and contacted the police.
Officers subsequently spoke to the defendant.” This case highlights ongoing concerns about public decency and the safety of individuals in public spaces within Wallsend and the wider North Tyneside area.
The court’s decision aims to address the seriousness of such offenses and the need for appropriate measures to prevent recurrence.
