MANCHESTER PREDATOR WHO LAY IN WAIT BEFORE RAPING VICTIMS IS JAILED FOR LIFE A predator who attacked and robbed vulnerable victims in Manchester city centre has been jailed for life.Mourad Malki, also known as Sid Ali Djelid, ‘lay in wait’ before attacking one woman and two men, over the course of five months around Manchester’s Canal Street.
He also went on to rob a phone and bank cards from a third man after luring him away to a secluded area.
Sentencing the 39-year-old as a dangerous offender, Judge Tom Gilbart told him: “Undoubtedly this was a campaign of rape.
I am quite satisfied that you went into the city centre for the purposes of finding victims.
You were seen walking the streets, watching people go by as you waited to identify a person’s vulnerability that gave you the opportunity to attack them.
All of the evidence suggests that you are a predator.” She had visited a number of bars on Canal Street, and by her own admission was ‘extremely drunk’.
At some stage she ended up in a car but could not recall how and why, before she was dragged out and attacked.
Malki raped the woman twice before stealing her phone, which she later tracked using ‘Find My iPhone’, leading her to his address in Cheetham Hill.
Bravely reading her victim impact statement to the court, the woman said: “I felt like my identity was taken away from me, I identify as gay and have no sexual interest in men at all.
I feel angry a lot of the time because of what happened and I feel I am just existing rather than living.
I feel like an outsider looking into my life.” A man visiting Manchester for work in June last year was approached by the defendant outside The Village, then taken to Richmond Street where he was 'aggressively' raped twice in an alleyway before theft of his phone, watch, and necklace.
He said: “I have struggled to come to terms with what happened.
I feel like I will never be the same person again.
I have distanced myself from friends and family.
He broke something inside me that I will struggle to fix.
To the defendant, I just want to say you did not destroy me, I survived, though I will never be the same again.” Another male, night out in the city, separated from his partner and drunk, was approached by Malki who then took him on a wrong route, pushed him down, and raped him, leading to theft of his phone and wallet.
He stated: “What happened to me has destroyed me.
I lost my spark, my confidence.
I don’t feel good about me anymore and I feel my identity has been lost.” A third victim, also a man, was approached and helped by Malki, who then took him on a wrong route, pushed him down, raped him, and stole his phone and wallet.
He said: “I didn’t do these things, I’m a thief, I steal...My criminal record is all about theft.
I do not assault people, I only steal.” Jurors saw through his lies and found him guilty of five counts of rape, one of theft and one of fraud.
He had previously pleaded guilty to three offences of theft.
Malki, of no fixed abode, was jailed for life to serve a minimum period of 16 years in prison.
Of that, he must serve two-thirds, which is 14 years and 291 days, before being eligible for release by the Parole Board.
He will also be registered as a sex offender for life.
------------------------------------------------------------------- On 24 July 2025, Thursday, Sid Ali Djelid, alternatively known as Mourad Malki and residing on Smedley Road in Manchester, was convicted of five counts of rape following a five-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.
The court learned that the assaults took place between February and July 2024 and involved attacking inebriated victims in the city centre.
The first attack took place early on Sunday, 18 February 2024, with CCTV images showing Djelid escorting a woman into a hidden alley near Chinatown where he assaulted her, stole her mobile phone, and fled.
Police tracked her phone back to Smedley Road, close to his home.
His second sex offence happened on Wednesday, 12 June 2024, when he approached a male visitor outside a bar on Canal Street.
After engaging him in conversation, Djelid led the victim to a remote area near Richmond Street and committed the rape, taking his phone, watch, and necklace.
The stolen phone was located in the Vallea Court area of Cheetham Hill.
CCTV footage from that time shows Djelid in a black puffer jacket.
His third crime occurred on 18 July 2024, just days before his arrest on 21 July.
He approached a male visitor who was lost and pretending to help, then lured him to a secluded canal spot on Jutland Street where he raped him.
As in the previous incidents, the attacker took the victim’s phone and wallet and fled.
Djelid later visited a Cheetham Hill service station, where he used a stolen bank card for a fraudulent transaction.
An attempt to make another purchase with the same card was declined, and the mobile phone used was again located in Cheetham Hill.
The defendant had already pleaded guilty to four theft charges earlier in connection with this case.
