ROCHDALE PAIR WHO ABUSED YOUNG MINORS JAILED FOR PROLONGED CAMPAIGN OF ABUSE
A man and a woman who showed no remorse after abusing two children have been sentenced to jail.
The victims, a girl and a boy both under 16, displayed "incredible courage" after the abuse, according to police reports.Shola Ogundare, aged 49, and Oluwafunmilayo Emmanuel, aged 35, were given custodial sentences of 15 and four years respectively at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
Authorities described the victims' ordeal as a "prolonged campaign of abuse".Det Con Russell Clarke from Greater Manchester Police stated that "one of the victims was abused under the pretence of punishment to satisfy Ogundare's most repulsive desires." He further emphasized that Ogundare showed "no remorse" and that his statements trying to evade justice were "beyond comprehension."Emmanuel was also characterized by a lack of remorse and had repeatedly defended Ogundare, attempting to discredit the victims.
Both accused pleaded not guilty but were convicted after a week-long trial.Ogundare was found guilty of attempted child rape, two counts of sexual assault, causing a child to watch a sexual act, cruelty to a person under 16, possessing an indecent image, and four counts of assault.
Emmanuel was convicted of four counts of cruelty to a person under 16.
