SHAUN WILDISH FROM PERTH SENTENCED AFTER JAIL PHONE THREATS

A prisoner from Perth, Shaun Wildish, has been sentenced to an additional four months in custody after making threatening remarks to his girlfriend during a recorded phone call from jail. On June 30, around 2:50 pm, Wildish called his partner’s landline from Edinburgh Road prison. When she answered, she was first greeted with a standard prison recording about the call being monitored before being connected to Wildish.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that an argument immediately ensued. It was revealed that the couple had been in a relationship for approximately a year.

Fiscal Depute Joanne Ritchie explained, “They began to argue immediately about who the complainer could and couldn’t be in contact with.” She further stated that Wildish used threatening language, saying, “you’re going to get the biggest beating of your life when I get out.” He also told her he was going to “slit her throat.”

The court was told the woman was fearful and ended the call. However, the couple continued to contact each other in the days following.

On July 3, police were contacted, and officers obtained a recording of a 20-minute phone call. Wildish, aged 24, appeared in court from custody and admitted to acting in a threatening or abusive manner.

Defence solicitor Paul Ralph stated, “He didn’t mean any of it. He just wanted to lash out at the time.”

Sheriff William Wood emphasized the seriousness of the offence, highlighting that it occurred while Wildish was incarcerated. He noted that “it has to be a further custodial sentence.”

Wildish was originally due for release in late January. The sheriff sentenced him to serve an additional four months and also issued a non-harassment order, forbidding him from contacting the woman for a period of 30 months.
