SHAUN TORELLV FROM MANCHESTER AND STOCKPORT JAILED AGAIN FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON SCHOOLGIRL
In a disturbing case that highlights ongoing concerns about grooming and sexual offenses involving minors, Shaun Torevell, a 51-year-old man with connections to Manchester and Stockport, has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting a young girl. The assault occurred over a period spanning from November 2010 to July 2014, during which Torevell, then aged 43, engaged in a pattern of grooming behaviors that included providing cigarettes and alcohol to the victim, and ultimately sexually assaulting her on at least one occasion while she was in his vehicle.
His criminal history includes a previous conviction from October 2016, when he was caught in a sting operation conducted by a well-known paedophile hunter, Neil Ivall.
During that operation, Torevell was duped into believing he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl named Jenni Johnston on Facebook.
Ivall had created a fake profile using a friend's childhood photo and set up a website called Chris Fear – Paedophile Hunter, to raise awareness about online grooming.
Torevell had sent explicit messages and photos, including one of his penis, and had arranged to meet the fictitious girl at Luton railway station in May 2016.
He was convicted of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and received a one-year custodial sentence.
However, the recent case came to light after a girl, who had been a victim of Torevell's earlier grooming, contacted Greater Manchester Police to report that she had been assaulted by him.
The police investigation revealed that Torevell had used cigarettes and alcohol to manipulate the girl, and on one occasion, sexually assaulted her while she was in his car.
The abuse took place over several years, and the court heard that Torevell had attempted to dismiss the allegations, claiming that the victim was 'jumping on the bandwagon' following his previous conviction.
During the trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, evidence was presented that Torevell had engaged in inappropriate conduct with the girl, including providing her with cigarettes and alcohol, and sexually assaulting her.
The court also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and ordered Torevell to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
The case underscores the dangers posed by individuals like Torevell, who exploit their positions and manipulate vulnerable minors for their own gratification.
The court's decision to impose a lengthy prison sentence and strict restrictions aims to protect the community and prevent further harm from Torevell in the future.
