SHUAN MEZZONE FROM OXFORD SENTENCED IN CHARITY SHOP CHILD ABUSE CASE REDUCED AT COURT OF APPEAL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Oxford, a man named Shaun Mezzone has been involved in heinous acts of child sexual abuse and grooming, which took place within the premises of a charity shop in Kidlington.The incident, which first came to light in May 2019, involved Mezzone luring a young pre-school girl into a back room of the Sobell House Hospice shop under the pretense of offering sweets and gifts.
Once inside, he engaged in sexually abusive behavior, including taking illicit photographs of the child in a state of undress.
Further details emerged in August 2019 when Mezzone targeted the same young girl again.
During this second encounter, he forcibly removed her and continued his abuse, which included taking more indecent images and sexually assaulting her.
Prosecutors revealed that Mezzone had also given the girl money and a present as a form of coercion or reward for her compliance, highlighting the manipulative nature of his grooming.
Following his arrest, law enforcement officers conducted a thorough search of his mobile phone and laptop, uncovering a significant collection of illegal images.
The digital evidence included a total of 32 Category A, 58 Category B, and 341 Category C indecent images depicting the sexual abuse, rape, and torture of children.
These findings underscored the severity and extent of his criminal activities.
At Oxford Crown Court, Mezzone, aged 47 and residing on Leiden Road in Oxford, admitted to multiple charges, including sexual assault and the creation of indecent images of children.
On July 1 of the previous year, Judge Maria Lamb sentenced him to five years in prison and ordered that he be registered on the sex offenders register for life.
The judge emphasized the gravity of his offenses and the need for lifelong monitoring to protect the community.
However, in a recent development, the Court of Appeal, comprising Lady Justice Macur, Mr Justice Lavender, and Sir Alan Wilkie, reviewed Mezzone’s case upon his appeal request.
Last Wednesday, they agreed to reduce his prison sentence from five years to four, citing considerations that are not detailed in the available records but indicating a possible reassessment of the severity of his punishment.
