TAXI DRIVER SHAUN MEENAN JAILED FOR RAPING 16-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A taxi driver named Shaun Meenan, aged 60, who had not previously offended, was sentenced to nine years in jail by the High Court in Glasgow for raping a 16-year-old girl he had picked up.
The court was told that Meenan assaulted the teenage girl both in his private hire vehicle and later in her home, after claiming he needed the toilet to gain entry.
The court also heard that Meenan was convicted of raping the girl on April 7, 2023.
Despite his conviction, Meenan maintained that any sexual activity was consensual and protested his innocence.
Lord Colbeck described his actions as 'taking advantage' of the girl in 'the most appalling fashion.' The judge emphasized the profound devastating impact on the victim.
Meenan was sentenced to nine years in prison, placed on the sex offender register indefinitely, and was banned from contacting or approaching the girl.
The court acknowledged that Meenan now regrets his actions, stating he accepted that his actions were misjudged and expressed remorse during sentencing.
