SHAUN DINSDALE FROM SUNDERLAND ARRESTED FOR SEXUAL ACTS WITH 13-YEAR-OLD IN CINEMA
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sunderland, a young man named Shaun Dinsdale has been detained following allegations of engaging in sexual activity with a minor in a local cinema.The incident, which took place in March of the previous year, has brought to light serious concerns about the safety of minors and the responsibilities of adults in public spaces.
According to court records, Dinsdale, who was 18 years old at the time, first encountered the 13-year-old girl in Mowbray Park, a well-known public area in Sunderland.
The girl was out of school, having decided to skip classes, and was accompanied by a friend.
During their time in the park on March 14, 2012, Dinsdale approached the girl’s friend and made a revealing statement, indicating his interest in the girl.
He then asked her to join him later that evening at a local cinema.
Subsequently, the girl agreed to meet Dinsdale, and the two attended a screening of a horror film.
The incident reportedly occurred in the back row of the cinema, where Dinsdale exposed himself to the girl.
The two then engaged in a sexual act, which the girl later described as consensual.
The girl confided in a staff member at her school about what had transpired, prompting the school to notify the police.
Dinsdale was arrested on March 28, 2012, as a result of this investigation.
Further details emerged during court proceedings, including testimony from an ex-girlfriend of Dinsdale’s who was present in Mowbray Park at the time of the meeting.
She reportedly told Dinsdale that the girl was only 13 years old, to which he responded, “I know.” This exchange underscored the defendant’s awareness of the girl’s age at the time of the incident.
It was also revealed that Dinsdale has a history of mental health issues.
During the court hearing, he was remanded to Northgate Hospital in Morpeth, which was listed as his address.
Prosecutor Amanda Ripon described the events, stating, “They went to see The Woman In Black at 8 o’clock and sat in the back row.
The defendant had begun to cuddle her before they engaged in the act.” Defense attorney Robert Spragg argued that the act was consensual, emphasizing that no physical violence was involved.
He stated, “It was a consensual performing of a sex act on Shaun by a 13-year-old girl when he was 18.
No physical violence was used at any stage.
Although it was wrong and inappropriate, there was no physical harm on that girl at all.” Judge John Evans acknowledged Dinsdale’s learning difficulties and his tendency toward irresponsible and aggressive behavior.
In his sentencing remarks, the judge emphasized the gravity of the offense, saying, “You engaged in thoroughly inappropriate behaviour with a 13-year-old girl at a time when you knew she was only that age.
There’s a risk of you committing further offences if you stay at large.
You will be detained to such a time until it is felt it is safe to return you to the community.” In addition to the charges related to the sexual act, Dinsdale also pleaded guilty to stealing a computer keyboard from a library in Newcastle City.
The case highlights the ongoing concerns about safeguarding minors and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in Sunderland and surrounding areas.
