RUNCORN MAN JAILED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE AND BRIBERY
A man named Shaun Ashley from Runcorn has been found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses against a young girl.
The court heard that Ashley, aged 37, sexually assaulted the girl on two occasions when she was in primary school, involving touching her to the vagina.
He subjected her again during her teenage years.
His crimes came to light after the victim's mother discovered messages on her daughter's social media showing the abuse.
The messages also revealed that Ashley had bribed the girl with money to silence her about the abuse, which he described as a way to keep her from telling her mother.
Prosecutor Denise Fitzpatrick explained that Ashley's criminal record included a previous conviction in 2022 for travelling without a ticket and a shoplifting caution in 2019.
During the trial, Ashley maintained his innocence, denying the allegations, and was convicted by the jury of two counts of sexual assault of a girl under 13 and one count of sexual activity with a child.
He was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and was also handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, banned from contacting the victim for life, and required to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Judge Philip Barnes emphasized the severity of his misconduct, stating, "The reason she never said anything was because you paid her money.
It was a bribe." Ashley appeared via video link at HMP Liverpool wearing a black T-shirt and glasses during sentencing.
The court made it clear that the sentence reflects the lifelong harm caused by sexual abuse.
