SHAUN ANDERSON CAUGHT WITH CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND ONLINE CHAT IN GLASGOW'S SPRINGBURN
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Shaun Anderson, a 40-year-old resident of Paisley, was apprehended by police after a series of alarming online activities involving underage girls. The investigation was triggered when a relative of Anderson discovered chat logs on a social media platform while attempting to change a password on a gaming console.
This discovery led authorities to uncover a pattern of inappropriate communication and illegal material linked to Anderson.
During a court appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Anderson admitted to engaging in sexual communication with a person he believed to be a minor.
He also pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a child in person and possessing indecent images of children.
The crimes in question took place between January and March of 2018, spanning over a period of several months.
The court was informed that the relative had come across Anderson’s account on the Kik messaging app, which is known for its popularity among young users.
Prosecutor John Bedford revealed that Anderson’s intentions appeared to be to seek out young teenage partners through these online interactions.
Evidence showed that Anderson’s profile included an indecent profile picture, which was accessible to the general public, raising concerns about the potential exposure of minors to harmful content.
Further investigation revealed that two decoys, posing as girls aged 14 and 15, had engaged in conversations with Anderson.
During these chats, Anderson inquired whether the 15-year-old decoy was comfortable with the age difference, and he even arranged to meet her at Glasgow Central train station.
Simultaneously, he asked the younger decoy if she was interested in having sex, demonstrating a clear intent to pursue illegal activities involving minors.
Police executed a search warrant at Anderson’s residence in the Springburn area of Glasgow.
During the raid, he admitted to possessing illegal images on his mobile phone.
Authorities seized his device and discovered a total of 13 indecent images, with victims ranging in age from just one year old to 14.
The search history on Anderson’s device also included search terms indicative of an interest in young teenage females, further implicating him in the criminal conduct.
Judge Joan Kerr decided to defer sentencing until next month to allow for the preparation of detailed background reports.
In the meantime, Anderson has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register and has been granted bail, pending further legal proceedings.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about online safety and the exploitation of minors, prompting calls for increased vigilance and preventative measures in the digital age.
