SHAUN ANDERSON CAUGHT IN GLASGOW HOARDING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND SEEKING MINORS

In a case that has shocked the local community, Shaun Anderson, a 41-year-old resident of Paisley, was found to have engaged in disturbing online activities involving indecent images of children and inappropriate communications with minors.

The incident came to light in March 2021 when authorities uncovered his illicit activities, which spanned from January to March 2018 at his former residence in the Springburn area of Glasgow.

According to court proceedings held at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Anderson pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including sending sexually explicit messages to someone he believed to be a young child, attempting to meet a minor for sexual purposes, and possessing indecent images of children.

The court was informed that his actions were discovered after a relative, while changing a password on a games console, stumbled upon chat logs that raised suspicion.

The investigation revealed that Anderson had been actively using social media platforms, notably the chat application Kik, where his account was found to contain explicit content.

Prosecutor John Bedford stated that Anderson’s intent appeared to be to find young teenage partners, as evidenced by the nature of his messages and profile.

Further examination uncovered that Anderson’s profile picture on Kik was an indecent image that was accessible to the public, raising concerns about his willingness to share such material openly.

During the online exchanges, two decoys—posing as 14- and 15-year-old girls—engaged with Anderson.

During these conversations, Anderson asked the older decoy if she was “comfortable with the age gap,” and he arranged to meet her at Glasgow Central train station.

Meanwhile, he also inquired with the younger decoy about engaging in sexual activity.

The police responded swiftly after Anderson admitted to possessing indecent images on his phone.

A search of his residence resulted in the seizure of his device, which contained a total of 13 images depicting children aged between one and 14 years old.

The investigation also revealed that Anderson’s internet search history included terms indicative of an interest in young teenage females.

Despite the severity of his actions, Anderson was not sentenced to prison.

Instead, Sheriff Joan Kerr placed him under supervision and mandated that his name be added to the Sex Offenders Register for a period of three years, reflecting the court’s concern over his potential risk to the community.

The case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling online exploitation and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable children from such predatory behavior.
