CORNWALL BREEDER CONVICTED OF HEARTBREAKING ANIMAL ABUSE
Sharon Jeannine Gladwell, a dog breeder from Cornwall, was found guilty of causing cruelty to animals after being caught on camera kicking and hitting a dog nursing its puppies.
The incident was reported in July 2023 when a member of the public observed her abusing the dog called Trust, whom she had purchased as a puppy.
The footage showed Gladwell kicking, punching, and throwing her pet dog, with the dog visibly cowering away from her.
A veterinarian examined Trust and confirmed that the dog had suffered physical pain and emotional stress due to the abuse.
In court, Gladwell admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal between February 7, 2024, and March 20, 2024, at her home.
She also breached a lifetime animal ban previously imposed in 2018 and violated her suspended sentence.
She was fined £733, ordered to pay £400 in costs and a £293 victim surcharge.
The case sparked public outrage, with a petition on Change.org demanding her sentence be upgraded to include a lifetime ban on owning animals.
The court's decision reflected the severity of her actions, with Judge noting it as one of the worst cases of animal cruelty he had encountered.
