Accrington Animal Abuser
In a disturbing series of criminal acts that have shocked the community of Accrington, Shane Taylor-Waters, born on May 4, 1980, and residing on Elizabeth Street, has been convicted of multiple heinous offences involving animal cruelty and sexual misconduct. His crimes, which span over several years, include the rape of chickens, a Great Dane, and previous convictions for similar offences dating back to 1997.

On September 18, 2020, Taylor-Waters' actions came under police scrutiny after the owner of Lower Holker Farm in Accrington discovered a gruesome scene in one of his chicken sheds. The owner found four chickens dead and several appearing unwell. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, he saw a man entering a chicken shed that had been securely bolted and remaining inside for approximately 20 minutes. Later, the owner returned to find 11 chickens dead, with the suspicion that they had been subjected to sexual abuse.

Following this discovery, law enforcement and the RSPCA were alerted. An investigation ensued, leading to the removal of eight chickens for examination. Tests revealed traces of Taylor-Waters' semen inside two of the chickens, confirming his involvement. The police identified him, and he was subsequently arrested. During police interviews, Taylor-Waters admitted to the offences, expressing a disturbing acknowledgment of his uncontrollable urges, stating, “I need help, I know what you’re on about. I just get these urges.”

Further investigations uncovered that Taylor-Waters had also engaged in sexual acts with his own dog, a Great Dane named Maddie. Semen traces were found on her during a veterinary examination. He confessed to having gone onto the farm with the intent to have sex with the chickens and admitted to visiting the farm on nine previous occasions. He also admitted to having sexual intercourse with Maddie at his residence, despite her growling and biting him during these acts.

His criminal activities did not stop there. The police also found evidence of his sexual abuse of Maddie, which he acknowledged had occurred on multiple occasions over several months. The severity of his actions prompted the court to impose a 30-month prison sentence and a criminal behaviour order banning him from owning or keeping animals. Additionally, a restraining order was issued to prevent him from approaching Lower Holker Farm.

Judge Sara Dodd delivered a stern judgment, describing the case as both unusual and deeply disturbing. She detailed how Taylor-Waters broke into chicken sheds on September 18 and 19, penetrating the chickens and ejaculating, resulting in the death of at least 15 animals. The judge emphasized the horror felt by the farm owners and the community at large. She also highlighted the disturbing nature of his conduct involving his dog, Maddie, with semen found in her during the police examination.

RSPCA inspector Demi Hodby commented on the case, explaining that the farm owner’s concerns led to the investigation. The tests confirmed sexual abuse had caused the chickens’ deaths. The RSPCA worked closely with Lancashire police to identify Taylor-Waters, who was arrested at his home on October 21. The organisation also removed Maddie from his care, where she remains until she can be rehomed.

In a related incident, Taylor-Waters was sentenced in March 2023 to 12 months in prison after being caught attempting to enter horse stables with the apparent intent to commit a sexual offence. He was found crouched behind a horse early in the morning, and during his arrest, he admitted to being on licence and suffering from an “unusual habit.” When questioned about animal cruelty, he claimed he had considered acting but decided against it, indicating ongoing issues with his behaviour.

These cases highlight a pattern of disturbing and illegal conduct by Shane Taylor-Waters, whose actions have caused significant distress and outrage in the Accrington community. His crimes have led to substantial legal consequences, including imprisonment, bans on owning animals, and restrictions on his movements related to the farm and animals involved.
