SHANE LAWLESS FROM RUNCORN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER BEING CAUGHT WITH CHILD SEX IMAGES IN CHESTER
In a case that has shocked the local community of Runcorn, Shane Lawless, aged 47, was found to be in possession of a disturbing collection of images depicting child sexual abuse.The incident came to light during a forensic investigation, which revealed that Lawless had accumulated a total of 42 indecent images of children, along with one prohibited image that is considered particularly offensive and obscene under the law.
These images were discovered to have been stored on Lawless’s devices between February and November of the previous year.
The forensic analysis confirmed the disturbing nature of the content, which included photographs that focus on the genitalia of children or depict sexual acts involving minors.
It is important to note that the law distinguishes between actual photographs and other forms of depiction; prohibited images include sketches, cartoons, paintings, or any other unreal representations that portray children in a sexual manner, and these were also found in Lawless’s possession.
Lawless, who resides on Whitebeam Close in Runcorn, faced multiple charges, including two counts of making indecent images of children, as well as possession of such images and a prohibited depiction.
The case was brought before Chester Crown Court, where the prosecution, led by Nardeen Nemat, outlined the details of the investigation and the evidence against him.
During the sentencing hearing held on Thursday, August 10, Judge Simon Berkson delivered a verdict that, while acknowledging the severity of the crimes, resulted in Lawless receiving a suspended prison sentence.
Specifically, he was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offence within that period.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Lawless was ordered to pay costs of £250 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a victim surcharge of £154.
The court also mandated that he complete 60 days of rehabilitation activities and perform 100 hours of unpaid community work.
Furthermore, the judge imposed strict conditions including registration as a sex offender, notification requirements, and a sexual harm prevention order, all of which will remain in effect for the next seven years.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the possession and distribution of child exploitation material, and the serious legal consequences faced by those found guilty of such offences.
