Stockton Rapist
A man residing in Heighington close to Newton Aycliffe has received a four-year prison term after admitting to the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl in 2019. The assault occurred in the Stockton area, when the victim was still a minor. Shane Colquhoun, the defendant, confessed to the offence on the first day of his trial at Teesside Crown Court. His sentence includes lifetime registration on the sex offenders register and an ongoing restraining order. After the ruling, law enforcement officials commended the young woman for her bravery in stepping forward to report the crime. Acting Detective Sergeant Shaun Watson, who led the investigation, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, noting that Colquhoun’s decision to plead guilty only on the court date extended the victim’s distress. He praised the victim’s perseverance and bravery throughout the process, stating, "She remained determined throughout, and I hope this sentence assists her in moving forward." The report displays a photograph of Shane Colquhoun and confirms he will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
