SHANE BLACKMORE FROM SUNDERLAND JAILED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In September 2014, a disturbing case emerged involving Shane Blackmore, a 20-year-old man from Sunderland, who was convicted of grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.

The incident unfolded through social media interactions on Facebook, where Blackmore initiated contact with the young girl, exchanging explicit messages that eventually led to a series of troubling events.

According to court proceedings, Blackmore used Facebook as a platform to communicate with the girl, whom he had met through mutual friends.

Over time, their conversations became increasingly inappropriate, with Blackmore expressing his attraction and asking her to send him indecent images.

The court was told that he had also sent her explicit photographs of himself prior to the night of the assault.

On the night in question, Blackmore invited the girl to his shared flat in Sunderland, where he was living in a bedsit at the Cloisters.

Despite her initial reluctance, Blackmore persuaded her to engage in sexual activity.

The court heard that the girl had told her mother she was staying over at a friend's house, indicating her attempt to hide her whereabouts.

Once at the flat, Blackmore convinced her to have sex in a room where his friends were sleeping, a situation that added to the distress of the young victim.

Prosecutor Julian Smith described the interaction, stating, “He was asking her to have sex with him, as she had put him in that state, of arousal, and she ought to get him out of it.” The court was also informed that Blackmore became angry when the girl refused to participate in sex acts, highlighting the coercive nature of his actions.

The victim, who was only 14 at the time, confided in a friend that she “hated herself” for what she had agreed to that night.

She has been profoundly affected by the ordeal, and her family has also suffered emotional distress as a result.

The court acknowledged her maturity and intelligence, but also recognized the trauma she endured.

Judge Deborah Sherwin sentenced Blackmore to four years in prison.

She also ordered him to comply with a sexual offences prevention order and to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

The judge emphasized the impact on the victim, stating, “She shows all the immaturity one might expect of a young girl her age.

These matters have clearly affected her and her family greatly.” Defence lawyer Andrew Finlay highlighted Blackmore’s troubled background, mentioning a history of bullying and immaturity.

He expressed remorse on behalf of his client, stating, “He genuinely regrets what has happened.” In summary, this case underscores the dangers of online grooming and the importance of safeguarding young individuals from exploitation.

The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of Blackmore’s actions and the lasting impact on his young victim from Sunderland.
