SHAIN HUNT CAUGHT IN CRAWLEY WITH CHILD PORNOGRAPHY - 10-YEAR SEXUAL HARM PREVENTION ORDER
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Crawley, a local man named Shain Hunt has been convicted for possessing and uploading indecent images of children across multiple online platforms. The offences, which took place between June and September 2022, led to a series of police investigations and ultimately resulted in Hunt receiving a substantial court sentence.
Authorities received a total of 26 separate referrals from major technology companies, including Google, Snapchat, and Discord.
These referrals indicated that indecent images had been uploaded from devices associated with Hunt’s addresses in Sussex, Warwickshire, and Suffolk.
The police forces from these regions collaborated closely to track down the suspect and gather evidence against him.
Hunt was detained and questioned by officers from all three jurisdictions.
Throughout the interrogations, he maintained a vehement denial of the allegations, claiming that he was being hacked and that he had no involvement in the uploading of such material.
Despite his protests, investigators seized and meticulously examined his electronic devices, a process that took several months to complete.
During this period, Hunt was repeatedly bailed, allowing the authorities time to build a solid case for prosecution.
Throughout his bail periods, Hunt appeared at court with a Bible in hand.
When the details of the allegations were read aloud during interviews, he claimed to feel physically sick, attempting to evoke sympathy or perhaps to deny the severity of the accusations.
However, law enforcement officials saw through his attempts to feign distress and remained determined to bring him to justice.
In a coordinated effort, police forces executed simultaneous raids at four different addresses linked to Hunt.
This strategic move was designed to seize any electronic devices that might contain further evidence.
Hunt was finally arrested at his flat on Ifield Drive in Crawley on July 17, 2022.
During the arrest, officers found him in possession of an iPad, which contained hundreds of images classified as Category A, the most serious category involving children.
Following a thorough investigation, Hunt, aged 24, was charged with the possession and distribution of a total of 279 Category A images, 246 Category B images, and 957 Category C images of children engaged in sexual activities.
The overwhelming evidence against him led Hunt to plead guilty to all charges.
His case was brought before Lewes Crown Court, where he appeared for sentencing on August 10.
The court sentenced Hunt to 18 months in prison, but this sentence was suspended for 18 months, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offences within that period.
Additionally, Hunt was issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which restricts his access to children and online content related to minors.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £250 and a victim surcharge of £156, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring and punishment.
