SHZAIIB HASSAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN GLASGOW AND DALRYMPLE
A man from Glasgow, Shahzaib Hassan, has been sentenced to prison after admitting to sexually assaulting a vulnerable woman in her own home. The incident took place in Dalrymple, and Hassan’s actions have led to significant legal consequences, including his addition to the sex offenders register for a period of ten years.
Hassan, aged 26 and residing on High Croft Avenue in Glasgow, pleaded guilty to the charges related to the assault.
The court heard that during the incident on December 21, 2023, he pushed his hands between the woman’s body and arms and touched her breasts.
This act was described as an assault on a woman who was considered vulnerable at the time.
The court was also informed that Hassan had previously denied responsibility to social workers, which added complexity to the case.
Initially, there was an allegation that Hassan also massaged the woman’s shoulders and arms, despite knowing that she did not want this to happen.
However, this part of the charge was dropped as part of a plea deal with prosecutors, leaving the focus on the sexual assault itself.
The sentencing process was delayed as the court awaited reports from criminal justice social workers and a risk assessment to better understand Hassan’s background and potential threat.
When Hassan appeared in court again, Sheriff Shirley Foran expressed concern over inconsistencies in his background reports.
She noted that Hassan’s denials of responsibility were contradicted by comments attributed to him, which did not align with his guilty plea.
The court also learned that Hassan was planning to marry in his home country, but Sheriff Foran emphasized her desire for him to remain in the United Kingdom.
Due to Hassan’s absence abroad during the initial proceedings, the sentencing was postponed once more.
When he returned to court on March 25, his solicitor explained that Hassan had been embarrassed in front of social workers and had spoken foolishly.
The lawyer stated that Hassan was now convinced he was responsible for the assault and acknowledged that his actions were intentional, not accidental.
Hassan expressed remorse and asked the court to consider a non-custodial sentence, offering apologies to both the court and the victim.
However, Sheriff Foran was clear in her judgment.
She condemned Hassan’s predatory behavior, emphasizing that the victim had allowed him entry into her home, only to be attacked while she was alone and vulnerable.
The sheriff remarked that Hassan showed little remorse and that a custodial sentence was necessary to mark the seriousness of his conduct.
Consequently, Hassan was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, with a reduction from the original 40 weeks due to his guilty plea.
Additionally, the court ordered that he be subject to sex offender notification requirements for the next ten years, underscoring the long-term implications of his actions.
