SHAH AHMED FROM SOUTH SHIELDS JAILED FOR GROOMING YOUNG GIRL ON VALENTINE'S DAY IN DISTURBING ONLINE PREDATION CASE
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers of online grooming and exploitation, Shah Ahmed, a 25-year-old man from South Shields, has been sentenced to prison after engaging in a series of predatory actions against a vulnerable 14-year-old girl. The incident unfolded on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2015, and the court heard how Ahmed used social media to target and manipulate the young victim.
Ahmed, who initially sent a friend request to the girl on Facebook, adopted the online alias 'Superman' to conceal his true identity.
The court was told that he quickly began engaging her in explicit conversations, exchanging messages that involved discussions about hugging, kissing, and sexual activity.
During these exchanges, he made inappropriate comments about his own manhood and asked her if she smoked, implying that he wanted to influence her behavior.
He also told her she was 'gorgeous' and expressed a desire to 'make her a bad girl,' further demonstrating his grooming intentions.
According to the court, Ahmed claimed to be 18 years old when he initially contacted her, although he had actually lied about his age.
The conversation escalated to the point where he suggested they meet in person.
He asked her to come to his home in South Shields, promising to watch TV and hang out, and during a phone call, he requested she bring paracetamol tablets, which she agreed to do.
The girl, who was already experiencing emotional difficulties, agreed to meet him after he assured her he would be there.
On the day of the meeting, the girl traveled from Newcastle to South Shields and was picked up by Ahmed in his car at a Metro station.
He then took her to his residence, where he lives with his family.
Once inside, he directed her to go upstairs to his bedroom, where he gave her two strips of paracetamol.
The court heard that he then proceeded to kiss her, and she remained at his home for some time, during which he continued to engage in inappropriate behavior.
After the encounter, Ahmed drove her to a different Metro station and dropped her off, leaving her distressed and upset.
Despite the meeting, he continued to communicate with her via Snapchat, but she explicitly told him she did not want him to contact her again.
Throughout their interactions, Ahmed maintained that he was only 18 or 19 years old, dismissing the significance of their age difference, which the court found to be a clear element of sexual grooming.
The court was also informed that the girl, who was already dealing with personal issues, experienced a significant decline in her mental health following the incident.
She has since suffered from self-harm and post-traumatic stress disorder, illustrating the profound impact of Ahmed’s actions.
Judge Amanda Rippon sentenced Shah Ahmed to 32 months in prison.
She also imposed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and mandated that he register as a sex offender for life.
In her remarks, the judge emphasized the severity of his misconduct, stating, “Maybe you didn’t know about the problems she had and you are not the only reason why she is in the position she is, but I have not the slightest doubt you are a major contributing factor.” The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the dangers posed by online predators, especially to vulnerable young individuals in communities like South Shields.
