In a recent court ruling at Basildon Crown Court, Shaban Gashi, a 31-year-old man from York Road, Southend, was sentenced to prison for committing sexual offenses against two young girls he did not know. The incidents, which took place in Southend, involved inappropriate physical contact and unwanted advances that have now led to his conviction.
Gashi was found guilty of groping the breast of a 15-year-old girl in an earlier incident. The court also heard that he later admitted to kissing a second victim without her consent as she was walking home from work in the evening hours. The second girl was on her way up Southend High Street towards the rail station when Gashi approached her. According to the prosecution, he put his arm around her, asked for her name, and then shook her hand before kissing it.
When the girl attempted to walk away, Gashi reportedly wrapped both his arms around her. Prosecutor Andrew McGee detailed the encounter, stating, “He asked if she wanted a little kiss, to which she replied, No, no,” emphasizing her refusal. Despite her protests, Gashi tried to kiss her on the lips, but she pulled her face away. During the struggle, he managed to plant kisses on her neck.
Gashi’s defense attorney, Matthew Bagnall, explained that his client had been drinking heavily that day, following a football match, which contributed to his impaired state. Gashi’s recollection of the events was described as “fuzzy,” but he ultimately pleaded guilty after DNA evidence linked him to the second victim. A DNA test revealed traces of his saliva on the 18-year-old girl’s neck, confirming his involvement.
As a result of his convictions, Gashi was sentenced to seven months in prison for two counts of sexual touching without consent. Additionally, he is required to sign the sex offenders register, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses and the impact on the victims involved.
