SEAN WILSON'S SHOCKING EDINBURGH CRIMES: SERIAL RAPIST SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS
Sean Wilson, aged 27, has been sentenced to a prison term of seven years following a series of heinous sexual offenses committed in Edinburgh. The sentencing took place at the High Court of Stirling on Friday, bringing closure to a case that has shocked the local community and highlighted the grave dangers posed by repeat offenders.
Wilson's criminal history is deeply troubling.
The court heard that when he was just 14 years old, he committed a disturbing act of sexual assault against a 13-year-old boy inside a school toilet in Edinburgh.
The jury was informed that Wilson had threatened his young victim with violence before carrying out the assault in 2012, a crime that marked the beginning of his pattern of predatory behavior.
His criminal activities did not end there.
At the age of 19, Wilson was involved in two additional sexual assaults, this time targeting a male ex-partner.
These incidents occurred at a flat in Edinburgh, with the first taking place in June 2017, followed by another assault shortly thereafter.
These repeated offenses underscored the severity of his criminal conduct and the ongoing threat he posed to others.
Wilson's arrest came years after these crimes, and he was subsequently brought to trial.
In January, a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh found him guilty of three charges of rape.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of his offenses and the impact on his victims.
During the sentencing hearing held on Friday, Wilson appeared via video link from prison, showing no visible emotion as the sentence was handed down.
His defense, led by solicitor-advocate Judith Hutchison, argued that Wilson maintained his innocence and struggled to accept responsibility for his actions.
She highlighted his mental state, noting that he had even extracted all of his fingernails with a nail clipper on the last day of his trial, an act indicative of his psychological distress.
Ms.
Hutchison also requested that the court consider Wilson’s young age at the time of the offenses.
The court was informed that social workers had assessed Wilson as being at high risk of reoffending sexually.
In addition to the seven-year prison sentence, Judge Lady Tait ordered Wilson to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
She also issued non-harassment orders to prevent him from contacting his victims directly or indirectly.
Furthermore, a three-year extension period was imposed following his release, during which he could be recalled to prison if he reoffends.
In her remarks, Lady Tait emphasized the vulnerability of the victims and acknowledged the significant harm caused by Wilson’s actions.
She praised the victims for their courage in giving evidence during the trial and stressed the gravity of the offenses.
The judge concluded by stating that each of the victims deserved recognition for their bravery and resilience in the face of such trauma.
