SEAN STIFMAN'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN SOUTHEND: PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED AFTER GROOMING AND ATTEMPTED SEXUAL EXPLOITATION

In a series of disturbing incidents that have shocked the community of Southend, Sean Stifman, aged 31, has been convicted and sentenced for serious offences involving the attempted sexual exploitation of minors and grooming activities.

The cases, which span from early 2020 to mid-2021, highlight the dangers posed by individuals who exploit social media platforms to target vulnerable children.

It was in July 2021 that Stifman was sentenced to four years in prison, with a subsequent six-year period on licence, after he attempted to persuade a 12-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity.

The incident occurred just weeks after his release from prison, raising concerns about the effectiveness of monitoring and the risks of reoffending.

During the court proceedings at Basildon Crown Court, it was revealed that Stifman had been communicating with an undercover police officer posing as a child.

Despite being under a court order that prohibited him from possessing a mobile phone or using social media, he was found to be actively engaging in conversations via social media platforms.

The court heard that Stifman had only recently been released from prison, having served time for previous offences.

In October 2019, he was convicted of similar sex offences, admitting to seven counts, which resulted in a two-year prison sentence and a ten-year sexual harm prevention order.

Despite this, he was released on October 14, 2020, and quickly resumed contact with minors through social media, including opening new accounts and acquiring a mobile device.

During the incident, Stifman was chatting with the undercover officer, who was posing as a 12-year-old girl, initially through a dating app before moving the conversation to WhatsApp.

He was asking for explicit images and sending indecent photographs of himself.

The police arrested him on November 6, 2020, and during his interview, Stifman fully admitted his intentions, stating that his goal was to have sex with the girl and showing no remorse for breaching the court order by using a mobile phone and social media without permission.

Judge Andrew Hurst, presiding over the case, expressed his concern about the potential harm that could have been inflicted had the victim been an actual child.

He emphasized the importance of understanding that children are not objects for sexual exploitation and are ill-equipped to handle such adult issues.

The judge highlighted the trauma that such experiences could cause and underscored the seriousness of Stifman's actions.

Earlier, in January 2020, Stifman’s criminal activities came to light when he was caught using a false identity, “Robert Austin,” to groom what he believed were teenage girls.

He engaged in conversations with three individuals he thought were 13 and 14 years old, with the interactions becoming sexual in nature.

On one occasion, he arranged to meet one of these girls at Southend Railway Station on October 13.

However, he was confronted and arrested by a group of paedophile hunters before he could carry out the meeting.

It was later confirmed that all three individuals he had been speaking to were actually adults, not minors.

Following his arrest, Stifman faced multiple charges, including engaging in sexual communication with a child, attempting to incite sexual activity with girls aged 13 to 15, and attempting to meet a girl under 16 following grooming.

He admitted to these charges at Southend Magistrates’ Court on October 15.

Subsequently, at Basildon Crown Court, he was sentenced to two years in prison, with half of that time to be served behind bars and the remaining half on licence.

Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, reflecting the gravity of his offences and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
