SEAN KEANE FROM HERTFORDSHIRE JAILED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDERS AND POSSESSING DEVICES IN LONDON COLNEY
A man identified as Sean Keane, a resident of Hertfordshire, has been sentenced to two years in prison following his conviction for breaching a court order related to his status as a sex offender.The incident came to light after Hertfordshire police conducted a search of his home in London Colney and discovered an Amazon Fire tablet, which he was not authorized to possess under the terms of his previous court restrictions.
Keane, aged 61, had previously been convicted of a sexual offence and was subject to strict conditions that mandated him to inform authorities about any new electronic devices, including phones or internet-enabled gadgets, as well as any online aliases he might use.
These conditions were put in place to monitor and prevent further offending behavior.
On May 4, during a police visit to his residence in London Colney, officers questioned Keane about recent purchases.
He admitted to having bought a new phone a few days prior from a neighbor, claiming he had tried to contact the officer assigned to him but no longer had the contact details.
Despite his denial of possessing any other internet-connected devices, police found an Amazon Fire tablet during their search of his home.
The discovery raised suspicions, especially considering his previous court orders.
Further investigation revealed that Keane had been using his mother’s maiden name on Facebook Messenger, an online alias he had not disclosed to authorities.
This act of concealment was viewed as a breach of his legal obligations and contributed to the charges against him.
Keane, who resides on Birchway in London Colney, appeared in court to face sentencing after pleading guilty to three separate offences: breaching a sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements.
His criminal history includes a significant previous conviction from October 2019, when he was sentenced to 33 months in prison for breaching a court order shortly after being sentenced for attempting to communicate with a child and attempting to meet a child after grooming.
During that earlier incident, police raided his home in Hemel Hempstead and found two unregistered phones, further demonstrating his pattern of non-compliance with legal restrictions.
In his defense, solicitor Alexandra Monaghan highlighted Keane’s poor health and personal struggles, including feelings of loneliness and a traumatic childhood marked by abuse.
She urged the court to consider these factors, emphasizing his vulnerable state.
However, Judge Michael Roques was firm in his sentencing, stating, “You were previously sentenced to prison for breaching a court order and you wilfully chose to breach it again.
I am concerned you will commit further offences.” The judge’s comments underscored the seriousness of Keane’s repeated violations and the potential risk he posed to the community.
