‘PARANOID’ MAN TRACKED GIRLFRIEND’S BUS JOURNEY AND TOLD HER TO UNDRESS IN STREET IN FOLKESTONE
Connolly, who works as a chef, was said to be struggling with his own “demons” when he subjected his partner to angry, aggressive and intimidating abuse for three months, culminating in two episodes of violence.
Despite his “very good start” and being “a really nice person,” he began to control her through calls, messages, monitoring her movements, and accusations of cheating.
He also bullied her to prove her whereabouts, tracked her bus journey, and ordered her to undress in the street.
The violence included grabbing her arm, pinning her to the bed, causing bruises and abrasions, and attempting to punch her.
Family and friends expressed concern about her safety, and she suffered from living in constant fear, unable to leave her house alone.
Connolly admitted to controlling and coercive behaviour between May and August 2023.
The court heard of his remorse, positive progress (such as giving up drugs and alcohol), and he was sentenced to a 12-month community order with rehabilitation, unpaid work, and a restraining order.
He was also ordered to pay £800 costs.
