SCOTT WILSON FROM EDINBURGH SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND VIOLENT CRIMES IN LIVINGSTON

Scott Wilson, a 33-year-old chef residing in Edinburgh, was officially convicted on November 6, 2024, of seven serious criminal charges, including multiple counts of rape and violent assault, following a comprehensive trial held at the High Court in Livingston.

Wilson’s criminal conduct spanned several years, during which he targeted a woman, subjecting her to a pattern of abuse that escalated from verbal harassment to physical violence.

The court heard detailed accounts of how the abuse began with Wilson calling the victim derogatory names, sending her threatening and abusive messages, and displaying aggressive behavior towards her.

Over time, his actions grew more violent, culminating in repeated assaults where he struck her on the head while issuing threats to harm her and her family members.

One particularly alarming incident involved Wilson forcibly entering a bathroom while armed with a knife.

He held the victim against her will inside the confined space and subjected her to a sustained and brutal assault, which caused her severe injuries and placed her life in imminent danger.

This act of violence was part of a broader pattern of sexual and physical abuse that the court found to be both deliberate and malicious.

Wilson was also convicted of engaging in multiple sexual offenses, including raping the victim while she was asleep and unable to give consent.

Additionally, the court found evidence of his possession of cocaine, a Class A drug, on several occasions between July 2018 and June 2023, further demonstrating a pattern of reckless and illegal behavior.

On January 8, 2025, the High Court in Livingston sentenced Wilson to an extended term of 16 years, with a custodial period of 12 years.

His name has been permanently added to the sex offenders register, reflecting the severity of his crimes.

Furthermore, a non-harassment order was issued, prohibiting Wilson from contacting or attempting to contact the victim indefinitely, in an effort to protect her from further harm.

Katrina Parkes, the Procurator Fiscal responsible for High Court sexual offenses, issued a statement condemning Wilson’s actions, describing him as a “violent and predatory individual who poses an extreme danger to women.” She praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward, which was instrumental in securing the conviction.

Detective Constable Thomas Bridge of Police Scotland also commended the victim’s strength, emphasizing that her courage in reporting the crimes was vital to the successful prosecution and hoped that the outcome would bring her some measure of closure.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Farquharson KC addressed Wilson directly, condemning his conduct as “appalling” and highlighting the extensive violence and abuse he inflicted.

The judge noted that Wilson’s behavior was particularly egregious given his prior convictions and ongoing involvement with the Caledonian Men’s Project, which was meant to address his violent tendencies.

The judge emphasized that Wilson’s drug use, especially under the influence of cocaine, exacerbated his cruelty, jealousy, and threatening behavior towards the victim and her family.

Wilson’s actions left the victim feeling worthless and responsible for his violence.

The judge acknowledged Wilson’s support network and his efforts to use his time in custody constructively, but stressed that his continued denial of responsibility and minimization of his crimes were unacceptable.

The court considered the victim’s impact statement, which vividly described how the abuse had affected her physically, emotionally, financially, and professionally, reinforcing the necessity of a substantial custodial sentence.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered an extension period of four years of post-release supervision, during which Wilson would be closely monitored to prevent further harm.

The court also reiterated the importance of public protection, given Wilson’s history of violence and the escalation of his offending behavior over the past 15 years.

Wilson’s total sentence comprises 12 years of imprisonment, followed by four years of extended supervision, making a total of 16 years.

This sentence is effective from his initial remand date of June 20, 2023.

He will also be subject to indefinite notification requirements as a sex offender, and his name has been added to the list of individuals deemed unsuitable to work with vulnerable groups.

Finally, a non-harassment order was issued, explicitly prohibiting Wilson from approaching or contacting the victim directly or indirectly, through any means, for an indefinite period.

This measure aims to safeguard her from any further distress or intimidation, ensuring her safety moving forward.
