SCOTT SIMPSON OF DALRY PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD EXPLOITATION OFFENCES AT KILMARNOCK SHERIFF COURT

A 27-year-old man from Dalry, Scott Simpson, was involved in serious online crimes related to child exploitation. He appeared before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on August 6 and admitted to five charges, including attempting to communicate indecently with children under 16, attempting to meet a child for unlawful sexual activity, and possessing indecent images of children.

His activities were uncovered through an investigation by Police Scotland's cybercrime unit, which involved an online sting. An undercover officer, posing as a 13-year-old girl, engaged Simpson in conversations that quickly turned sexual.

The court was told that Simpson had arranged to meet the undercover 'child' at a McDonald's in Partick, planning to drive her for sexual purposes. Police arrested him at West End Retail Park in Glasgow on March 14 after he confirmed he was waiting for the 'child.'

Further inquiries revealed Simpson had exchanged messages with an individual believed to be a 15-year-old girl. In these messages, he made sexual comments and claimed to be her 'secret boyfriend.' Police searched his home and uncovered a mobile phone containing 20 indecent images of children, including photographs depicting rape and sexual abuse.

Simpson also communicated via Snapchat, discussing sexual activities and expressing interest in a 15-year-old girl. During these conversations, he made comments about her bra size and referred to himself as her 'secret boyfriend.' The Snapchat account was traced to an address owned by a witness who admitted to creating the profile to identify adults seeking contact with minors.

Although Simpson was initially remanded in custody, he was subsequently granted bail. He was also immediately placed on the sex offenders register. The court ordered background reports, and Simpson’s solicitor stated that mitigation would be provided once the reports were available. Nevertheless, the court emphasized his guilty pleas and the importance of his registration as a sex offender.
