HARTLEPOOL SEX OFFENDER SCOTT KITCHING SENTENCED FOR MULTIPLE ASSAULTS ON YOUNG GIRLS
In May 2018, a disturbing case involving a local sex offender from Hartlepool came to light, highlighting a series of troubling incidents involving young girls.Scott Kitching, aged 21, was found guilty of multiple sexual assaults that targeted vulnerable victims, including pre-teen girls and a young woman.
According to court reports, Kitching engaged in inappropriate and criminal behavior by forcibly pulling down the trousers or leggings of two young girls, both of whom were under the age of twelve.
These acts of molestation were carried out in a manner that left the victims traumatized and frightened, and they were unable to defend themselves against his predatory actions.
In addition to these assaults on minors, Kitching also repeatedly targeted a young woman, subjecting her to unwanted physical contact.
He would slap or squeeze her bottom and touch her private parts over her clothing, actions that caused her significant distress.
Despite her protests and warnings for him to stop, Kitching persisted in his behavior until she responded by punching him in the face, an act of self-defense that ultimately brought the incident to an end.
During the legal proceedings, Kitching denied groping the woman, claiming that she had initiated the contact by kissing him and that he had told her to stop.
His attempts to shift blame onto the victims were evident when he was arrested and interviewed by authorities.
However, after a thorough investigation, he ultimately pleaded guilty to the sexual assault charges.
Prosecutor Paul Cleasby detailed how Kitching's offending did not cease with the initial incidents.
The court heard that he went on to grab and touch another teenage girl multiple times, even the day after he was released on bail for the earlier crimes.
Despite being given the opportunity to avoid further charges, Kitching denied six additional sexual assaults, but magistrates found sufficient evidence to convict him.
Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, the Recorder of Middlesbrough, addressed Kitching directly during sentencing.
He expressed concern over Kitching’s apparent lack of remorse and his continued blame-shifting towards his victims.
The judge emphasized that Kitching minimized his own offending and demonstrated a disturbing prurient interest in young girls.
The judge remarked, “It’s the number of victims that are involved and the persistence and your attitude to your offending that has caused me the greatest concern.” As a result of his convictions, Kitching was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order that restricts his contact with anyone under the age of 16.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and compliance with legal restrictions.
Kitching’s case underscores the serious nature of sexual offenses involving minors and highlights the importance of legal measures to protect vulnerable individuals from repeat offenders in the Hartlepool area and beyond.
