MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON AFTER VIOLENT DOMESTIC ASSAULT IN BLACKPOOL
2018 - A mother who was violently headbutted by her ex-boyfriend—a former soldier—after he lost his temper over a chicken Kiev has spoken out after he avoided jail and mocked the justice system. In a move she described as a final insult, 32-year-old Howell later posted a WhatsApp status showing himself flashing a two-fingered gesture outside court with the caption “get it round ya.” The Army reservist, from Greenock, attacked her in March at their home in Drumchapel, Glasgow, leaving her with a lump “the size of an egg” on her head.
The pair shared the house with their young child.
At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Howell admitted assaulting her, spitting at a police officer, and carrying a knuckle duster.
He also confessed to breaching bail on the same day it was granted when he was caught in her garden.
When he appeared in court again, Sheriff Margaret Liddell sentenced him to a 12-month community payback order with supervision and imposed a two-year non-harassment order preventing him from contacting his former partner.
But the mother of two said her ex should have been jailed for the attack, which left her with two black eyes, warning that any future partner of his would be at serious risk.
2025 - A man named Scott Howell, while holidaying at the Galaxy Holiday Apartments in Blackpool with his partner from Scotland, carried out a savage assault in May 2022.
During the incident, Howell told his girlfriend he was going to murder her and made a disturbing statement, 'you're not my girlfriend, you're a business transaction.' The woman was terrified and managed to escape the flat in the early hours, traveling back to Glasgow where her sister greeted her at the station.
She reported the incident to the police.
Howell physically assaulted her by throwing her off a bed, yanking her hair, and repeatedly striking her in the face.
The victim suffered a broken nose requiring surgical realignment and a fractured, bruised cheekbone.
She also experienced breathing difficulties and loss of smell, and took time off her role as a student nurse out of fear of Howell possibly returning to harm her.
Despite denying the assault, Howell was convicted at Preston Crown Court.
The victim described her relationship with Howell as developing from friendship, noting that she was warned of his previous abusive behavior.
The court heard Howell had prior convictions for domestic abuse, but had not previously served a custodial sentence.
The sentencing judge, Fiona Clancy, emphasized the breach of trust inherent in domestic violence cases and sentenced Howell to 18 months in prison.
The judge also acknowledged Howell's childhood trauma and the traumatic bereavement of his brother, who died from alcohol-related issues.
