SCOTT GRINEAU SENTENCED IN BERKSHIRE FOR ABHORRENT CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN WITNEY
A man identified as Scott Grineau has been handed a severe prison sentence after being convicted of multiple heinous crimes involving a minor.The 38-year-old resident of Pegasus Close in Thatcham, Berkshire, was found guilty by a unanimous jury at Oxford Crown Court of five counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and two counts of inciting or causing a child to participate in sexual acts.
The trial concluded on Friday, March 15, with the jury's verdict confirming his guilt on these charges.
In a related development, Grineau was acquitted of an additional count of sexual activity with a child, but the remaining charges resulted in a significant sentence.
He was sentenced to seven years in prison, with an additional 12 years on license, meaning he will be under supervision for a substantial period after his release.
Furthermore, he will be registered on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
The criminal acts took place in Witney, Oxfordshire, during a single night in September 2021.
The offences came to light when they were reported to the police on September 15 of that year.
Following the report, Grineau was swiftly arrested on September 16, 2021.
His legal proceedings continued over the subsequent months, culminating in his formal charges via a postal requisition on December 23, 2022.
Detective Constable Samantha Hunter, who is part of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit, commented on the case, stating, "Scott Grineau has now been held to account for some abhorrent offences against a child." She expressed her appreciation for the victim’s bravery, saying, "I would like to place on record my praise for the victim in this case for having the courage to support the investigation to ensure that Grineau is sent to prison where he belongs." She also reaffirmed the police commitment to investigating such serious crimes, emphasizing that authorities will continue to pursue justice for victims of child abuse and sexual offenses, regardless of the time elapsed or the complexity of the case.
