SCOTT BAMFORD JAILLED IN MANCHESTER FOR SEX OFFENSES AFTER PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS INVESTIGATION
In January 2019, a convicted sex offender, Scott Aaron Bamford, aged 25 and formerly of Rochdale, was sentenced after being caught by paedophile hunters.
At the time, he was residing in a bail hostel in Manchester and appeared before Manchester Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause or incite a female under 13 to engage in sexual activity.
The court was informed that Bamford had contacted the online profile of what he believed was a 13-year-old girl, engaging in sexually explicit chats with the apparent intention of initiating sexual activity.
However, it was revealed that the profile did not belong to a minor but was operated by adults posing as children as part of a sting operation aimed at catching sexual predators.
A paedophile hunting group called 'Dark Light', assisted by the team 25/8, confronted Bamford at the bail hostel.
They questioned him about his online activity before police arrived and made an arrest.
Subsequent investigations uncovered that Bamford had also been sending sexual messages to two real schoolgirls.
The judge sentenced Bamford to four years in prison, with a further six years on licence.
Additionally, a sexual harm prevention order was imposed for ten years, and he was informed that he must remain on the sex offenders register for life.
His mobile phone was also ordered to be destroyed as part of the penalties.
