OUTRAGE AS KILMARNOCK CHILD SEX OFFENDER WALKS FREE AFTER JUST TWO MONTHS BEHIND BARS
A convicted child sex offender who admitted sexually assaulting a young victim has been released back into the community after serving only a fraction of his prison sentence.Sandy Robb, of Kilmarnock, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault against a child at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and was sentenced to eight months in prison.
The court also ordered that Robb be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years, ensuring he remains subject to monitoring by specially trained police officers.
However, despite receiving an eight-month jail term, Robb was released on 20 May 2026 after spending around two months in custody following the sentence being backdated to 19 January 2026.
The release is likely to raise questions among members of the public who believe sentences for child sex crimes should result in offenders spending longer behind bars.
Robb’s guilty plea meant there was no trial, sparing the victim from having to give evidence in court.
The conviction followed admissions to two charges of sexual assault against a child.
Although now back in the community, Robb remains a registered sex offender and will be subject to restrictions and ongoing management by police for the next decade.
The case has drawn particular anger because of the serious breach of trust involved, with those familiar with the circumstances describing the offending as a profound betrayal.
While Robb has walked free from prison, his conviction and registration requirements will remain in place for years to come as authorities continue to monitor his activities.
