SANDRA O’ROURKE SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN HARTLEPOOL
In a case that has shocked the Hartlepool community, Sandra O’Rourke, a 47-year-old woman, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after admitting to a series of heinous sexual offences involving a young child. The court heard that O’Rourke was responsible for a disturbing pattern of abuse that inflicted lasting trauma on her young victim.
O’Rourke faced a total of 13 charges, which included two counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, seven counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual acts, and four counts of sexual assault on a minor.
The offences spanned a period during which the victim was subjected to repeated and calculated abuse, leaving deep emotional scars.
During police questioning, O’Rourke chose to remain silent and did not respond to any of the questions posed to her.
However, she later confessed to all the allegations, admitting her guilt in a court appearance.
Her plea of guilty was accepted, and the case proceeded to sentencing.
Judge Stephen Ashurst, presiding over the case at Teesside Crown Court, described the abuse as ‘depraved’ and emphasized the profound impact it had on the victim.
In his remarks, the judge stated, “The victim was told by you that they would never be believed and they were threatened by you.
You told them you would deny what you had been doing until your dying day.” He further explained that the victim continues to suffer from flashbacks and feels unable to forget the traumatic events inflicted upon them.
The court was told that the abuse took place at Harbour Court in Hartlepool, where O’Rourke resided.
In delivering the sentence, Judge Ashurst sentenced O’Rourke to 12 years in prison, with an additional year on extended licence.
The judge acknowledged the severity of the crimes, describing them as ‘exceptionally depraved and serious,’ and noted that her actions had robbed a vulnerable young person of their innocence and childhood.
While the lengthy sentence reflects the gravity of her offences, the court’s decision underscores the importance of holding offenders accountable for such heinous acts and protecting the community from further harm.
