SAMUEL GORTON FROM LEVERINGTON SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR RAPE OF UNDERAGE GIRLS IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE AND NORFOLK

A 20-year-old man named Samuel Gorton, hailing from Leverington in Cambridgeshire, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 12 years after being convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of two underage teenage girls. The offences took place after Gorton deceitfully convinced the victims that he was younger than his actual age, a manipulation that allowed him to gain their trust and lure them into dangerous situations.

Gorton faced charges of three counts of rape, with one victim originating from Cambridgeshire and the other from Norfolk. The police described him as a "dangerous individual," emphasizing the threat he posed to vulnerable young girls. His method of operation involved the use of Snapchat, a popular social media platform, through which he targeted his victims. By creating a fake account and providing a false name to one of the victims, Gorton was able to establish contact and manipulate the girls into meeting him.

Despite his denials of the allegations, Gorton's guilt was established after a comprehensive three-week trial held at Norwich Crown Court. The court proceedings culminated in his conviction on all counts, leading to the severe sentencing handed down on a Friday. In addition to his prison sentence, Gorton was ordered to serve an additional eight years on extended licence, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities after his release. Furthermore, he was issued a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for 30 years, along with a restraining order that will stay in place until further notice. Gorton was also placed on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing oversight of his activities.

Authorities from both Norfolk and Cambridgeshire police forces worked diligently to track down Gorton after he used deception and manipulation to meet his victims. He was eventually located and arrested in the King's Lynn area in May. The investigation was led by Detective Constable Paul McCormack of Norfolk Police, who publicly acknowledged the seriousness of Gorton's actions. McCormack stated, "Gorton is a dangerous individual who took advantage of two vulnerable young victims. I commend their courage and strength throughout this investigation and subsequent trial."
