SAMUEL CORTEZ AND SHOCKING ABDUCTION IN LONDON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the London community, a man named Samuel Cortez has been found guilty and sentenced for his heinous actions involving an 11-year-old girl.Cortez, whose residence is listed as Nether Street, North Finchley, was brought before Harrow Crown Court last Thursday, November 10, where he received a lengthy prison term for the grave crimes committed.
The incident took place on September 30, 2021, near Sussex Ring in Woodside Park, a locality within the North London area.
During this time, the young girl was waiting at a bus stop when Cortez approached her at around 4 pm.
According to court reports and investigations, Cortez threatened her with a knife, which he purportedly displayed to intimidate her.
Without warning, he forcibly grabbed her wrist, and despite her efforts, he managed to drag her to a nearby park.
Once in the park, Cortez subjected the girl to a sexual assault, an act that has understandably devastated her family and the local community.
The authorities responded swiftly to the incident, launching an investigation that involved examining CCTV footage from the area.
Footage showed the suspect in the vicinity of the bus stop and park, providing crucial evidence that led to Cortez’s arrest on December 15 of the same year.
Having been apprehended, Cortez pleaded guilty to the charges of sexual assault of a child under 13.
His guilty plea was an important development in the case, demonstrating acknowledgment of his criminal conduct.
The court sentenced him to nine years of imprisonment for the sexual assault.
Additionally, he received a concurrent sentence of three years and nine months for child abduction, which means both sentences will be served simultaneously, not consecutively.
The judge overseeing the case emphasized the severity of the crime by ruling that Cortez must serve a five-year period on licence after completing his imprisonment.
Moreover, he is required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life, a measure aimed at protecting the community and monitoring his behavior post-release.
Detective Constable Chris Finnegan of the North West Command Unit expressed the gravity of the case, stating, “This was a terrifying ordeal for the young girl but she, with the support of her family, has shown immense courage and strength in supporting our investigation.” The community continues to grapple with the impact of this traumatic event, but the justice system's response reflects the seriousness with which such crimes are taken in London.
