POWYS MAN SENTENCED FOR STRANGLING EX DURING WELSH SEASIDE HOLIDAY
A man from Llangynog was found guilty and received a sentence following an incident during a seaside trip to Aberdyfi, where he strangled his former partner.
The incident took place in October last year, after a disagreement in their hotel room triggered by Trommelen, who accused her of being unfaithful.
In the course of the dispute, he placed his arm around her neck, cutting off her airflow.
Although he eventually let go and she escaped the scene, Trommelen pursued her into the street, escalating the confrontation.
A bystander stepped in, calling authorities and offering safety to the woman.
As Trommelen left the scene, he kicked a door and ripped off his shirt.
He was apprehended early on October 12.
Trommelen later stated he had restrained her to defend himself from an alleged attack, but he admitted to intentionally strangling her, along with charges of criminal damage and cannabis possession.
He was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court to two years and three months in prison and was issued a five-year restraining order to keep him away from his former partner.
Detective Constable Gutun Lake of North Wales Police highlighted the seriousness of violence against women, emphasizing that it is unacceptable and commended the victim's courage in coming forward.
