LONDON CHILDREN'S ICU DOCTOR SALMAN SIDDIQI CAUGHT FLASHING IN TOWER HAMLETS

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the medical community and residents of London, Dr.

Salman Siddiqi, a 44-year-old children's intensive care unit doctor, was involved in a highly inappropriate and illegal act that led to his suspension from his professional duties.

According to reports, the incident occurred in June 2019 when Siddiqi was seen by witnesses in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, a well-known green space in London's East End.

Onlookers observed him exposing his genitals in broad daylight while walking through the park, an act that caused alarm and distress among those present.

The witnesses promptly detained Siddiqi in a citizens' arrest and called the police to handle the situation.

Following his detention, Siddiqi was handed over to law enforcement authorities at Bethnal Green police station.

He was issued a formal police caution, which is a formal warning that indicates he admitted to the offence of intentionally exposing himself with the intent to cause alarm or distress.

This caution was a significant admission of guilt, yet Siddiqi failed to disclose this incident to the General Medical Council (GMC), the regulatory body overseeing medical practitioners in the UK.

Remarkably, the caution remained undisclosed for nearly two years.

It was only in March of the following year that Siddiqi voluntarily reported the incident to GMC officials after engaging in an informal discussion with a senior colleague.

This delayed disclosure raised concerns about transparency and professional conduct.

As a result of the incident and subsequent revelations, Siddiqi faced disciplinary proceedings at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service.

During the hearing, which was largely conducted behind closed doors due to the doctor citing 'private issues,' Siddiqi expressed remorse for his actions.

He stated that he had identified the 'trigger' for his behaviour and had taken steps to seek help.

He also mentioned that he had established a support network and was receiving assistance from friends and an imam at his local mosque.

At the time of the offence, Siddiqi was working as a locum Paediatric Intensive Care Unit Consultant at the Royal London Hospital, having qualified as a doctor in 2001.

His previous employment included positions at Guy's Hospital and Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.

During the disciplinary hearing, it was noted that he was employed by Barts Health NHS Trust at the time of the incident.

The tribunal ultimately suspended Siddiqi from practicing medicine for a period of one month.

The suspension was based on the findings that he had committed a serious breach of professional conduct, and the hearing emphasized the importance of maintaining trust and integrity within the medical profession.

Despite expressing regret, Siddiqi was unable to provide absolute assurances that such behaviour would not recur, highlighting ongoing concerns about his conduct.

In conclusion, this case underscores the importance of transparency and accountability among healthcare professionals.

The incident has prompted discussions about safeguarding standards and the need for medical practitioners to uphold the highest ethical standards, especially when working with vulnerable populations such as children.
